We’ve reached the midway point of the 2018 MLB season signified by the All-Star break. This also means the Los Angeles Angels have a half of season under their belt with a new Daktronics integrated LED system.

Prior to the 2018 season, the Angels chose Daktronics to upgrade their video technology at Angel Stadium. The upgrade was a replacement of video displays that were originally installed 2004, technology that served Angel Stadium for 14 years showcasing the product’s longevity and durability.

2004 Installation

The 2018 installation features 15 LED displays amassing more than 23,000 square feet of LED, the most of any ballpark in MLB. Highlighting the new displays is the right field main video board, the third largest display in MLB. To compete with the ever-present California sun, the primary video displays incorporate elevated nit levels of brightness for sustained daytime visibility.

The Angels also relied on Daktronics’ engineering capabilities and strengths for several parts of this project, including retrofit steel structures on the right and left field video display catwalks and implementing custom-shaped designs for the Halo marquee.

As customers are always looking to incorporate unique features with video technology at their facility, the Angels added ‘corner wraps’ to the right field video display, a first for an outdoor main video board.

All displays at Angel Stadium are driven by Daktronics control system and feature custom content created by our Creative Services department.

So, I guess if we had to give the Angels project a grade at the midway point, it would have to be a ‘Big A’ (as the stadium is referred to as).

We hope you enjoy the second half of the season, and we hope to see the Angels ‘Light Up The Halo’ many more times.
