Last week Rhode Island, Massachusetts and the world made national news by coming together to grant a dying boy’s wish to be famous.

Dorian Murray, now 8, has been battling a rare form of pediatric cancer since he was just the age of 4. Dorian said that his one wish was to become famous in China.

A week later the hashtag #DStrong was started, and it spread like wildfire. It was first picked up in China, Dorian’s original wish, but it then spread to Celebrities here in the States. The movement then hit Rhode Island politicians like U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse and Governor Gina Raimondo.

Fast-forward to Wednesday, when Rhode Island General Assembly declared the day “#DStrong Day.”

The hashtag went viral Wednesday and digital billboards all over the state in both Rhode Island and Massachusetts were used to post the hashtag #DStrong. Photos of the billboards were shared amongst social media sites. It is truly incredible to think that an advertising medium such as digital billboards could be used in such a beautiful way.
