This year on President’s Day, Daktronics engineers from across the company gathered at the Swiftel Center in Brookings, South Dakota to show their groups’ recent innovations to fellow coworkers and local engineering students. This year marks the 10th Anniversary of the conference, which provides a venue for collaboration between engineering disciplines and provides an opportunity to showcase new technology and development tools.
In addition to keynote speeches from company leadership, attendees had the opportunity to attend breakout sessions which focused on different areas of product development such as narrow pixel pitch, control systems, Enhanced Dynamic Content and Chip-On-Board technology. The technical conference also featured exhibits on innovative ongoing developments for attendees to browse throughout the day.
The conference has grown considerably since the first event in 2009. Initially, the attendee list consisted of engineering personnel and presentations focused on process improvements and engineering communication. Today, groups from engineering, manufacturing, services, marketing, sales and project management all attend to check out the latest and greatest technology being worked on across the company.
In the decade since it’s inception, the conference has become even more greatly appreciated as a way for engineers to exchange ideas, as groups are more spread out across the world than they were in 2009. In addition to groups from Brookings and Sioux Falls, South Dakota, representatives from County Clare, Ireland and Shanghai, China attended this year. In addition to bringing engineers together from across the world, the conference has turned from engineering only to an innovation showcase which includes an attendee list that draws from many departments across the company, such as sales, marketing, project management, manufacturing and service.
Every year, the conference is held during National Engineering Week, which is dedicated to celebrating the engineering profession and fostering a new generation of engineers. Daktronics embraces this idea by holding the conference every year on President’s Day, so local students have an opportunity to attend and learn more about how engineering translates to real world experience.
Here’s to many more years of the Engineering Technical Conference showcasing the latest innovations at Daktronics.
