UConn Basketball Turned to Daktronics for Largest End Wall Video Displays In College Basketball

13 displays are lighting up Gampel Pavilion this season

BROOKINGS, S.D. – Feb. 24, 2025 – When Huskies fans returned to Gampel Pavilion this past fall, they were greeted by two of the largest end wall video displays in college basketball as the University of Connecticut (UConn) turned to Daktronics (NASDAQ-DAKT) of Brookings, South Dakota, to design, manufacture and install a new video display system. This includes eight narrow vomitory displays, three court-side LED scorers tables and Daktronics Show Control system, all installed before basketball tipped off.

“The new graphics, lighting and video boards have truly transformed Gampel Pavilion, and the improvements are already making a noticeable impact,” said UConn Director of Athletics David Benedict. “The attention to detail and dedication to enhancing the experience for everyone in the venue is evident in every aspect of the upgrade. It’s clear Daktronics’ efforts have set a new standard for what this space can offer and we couldn’t be more thrilled with the results.”

End Wall Video Display Details

Two massive end wall displays were installed inside Gampel Pavilion, each measuring nearly 20 feet high by 120 feet wide. Both displays feature 5.9-millimeter pixel layouts to deliver crisp, clear imagery to fans throughout the arena.

“At UConn, we pride ourselves on putting the best team on the court, and now, with Daktronics, we also have the best displays in our arena,” said David Kaplan, UConn associate athletic director for broadcast and video services. “The new displays are amazing and bring another level of energy to UConn basketball. These are the largest end wall video boards in college basketball and give us more digital real estate to elevate the atmosphere and recognize our sponsors. It was great working with Daktronics to bring this vision for Gampel Pavilion to life.”

Each display features variable content zoning allowing each to show one large image or to be divided into multiple zones of content that Huskies fans crave at every event. This includes any combination of live video, instant replays, up-to-the-minute statistics and game information, graphics and animations, and sponsorship messages.

“The new displays at Gampel Pavilion are sure to amaze fans and deliver a fantastic experience at the Pavilion,” said Charley Bocklet, Daktronics region manager. “Daktronics is extremely proud to be part of this upgrade to the facility and to continue our relationship and support of the UConn athletic program.”

Additional Display Details

Additionally, eight vomitory displays above the entrances and exits to the seating bowl along with three scorers tables displays along the side of the court were added to supplement the digital experience for UConn.

Four lower vomitory displays measure 2.5 feet high by 10 feet wide while two of the upper-level vomitory displays measure 2.5 feet high by nearly 20 feet wide and two will measure 2.5 feet high by nearly 30 feet wide. All eight displays feature 5.9-millimeter pixel spacing.

The three scorers tables each measure 2.5 feet high by roughly 10 feet wide and can be arranged in any configuration to fit the Huskies' live event needs. Each features a 3.9-millimeter pixel layout.

These vomitory and scorers table displays allow for the opportunity to highlight sponsors throughout events while also supplementing content shown on the main end wall displays.
