South Dakota State University Set to Open Renovated First Bank & Trust Arena with New Daktronics Audiovisual System

29 displays totaling more than 2,000 square feet set to welcome Jackrabbit fans this fall

BROOKINGS, S.D. – Sept. 27, 2024 – Daktronics (NASDAQ-DAKT) of Brookings, South Dakota, has continued a longstanding partnership with South Dakota State University (SDSU) to design, manufacture and install 29 new LED displays on campus at the renovated First Bank & Trust Arena in Brookings. A 915-square-foot centerhung highlights the installation that includes scorers tables, stanchions, vomitory displays and marquees, all installed before the fall sports seasons tip off in 2024.

“Our long-standing and continued partnership with Daktronics provides Jackrabbit fans with the industry's best video and sound systems,” said SDSU Director of Athletics Justin Sell. “The upgraded equipment will enhance the environment for all events in the newly renovated First Bank & Trust Arena. It’s also special to partner with Daktronics on this project – they are part of the fabric of Brookings, South Dakota, and South Dakota State University. We are truly excited to reveal these new elements to spectators this fall and continue the momentum at SDSU.”

Centerhung Display Details

The centerhung features a seamless wrapping main video display measuring 11.5 feet high by 69 feet in circumference and an upper ring display measuring 1.5 feet high by 76 feet in circumference. Each display features 5.9-millimeter pixel spacing for crisp, clear imagery delivered to every seat in the arena.

The video display is capable of variable content zoning enabling it to show multiple windows and a variety of content at the same time. This includes live video, instant replays, up-to-the-minute statistics, game information, graphics, animations and sponsorship messages.

“Daktronics is excited to once again be partnering with South Dakota State University as they begin a new chapter with the opening of First Bank & Trust Arena,” said Matt Warnke, Daktronics sales representative. “We have been a partner of the university for many years, and our scoring and video display systems have been a part of many exciting moments in SDSU history. We look forward to the new LED displays and audio system enhancing what will be a great game-day environment.”

Court-Level Display Details

Near the court, six LED scorers tables and four basket stanchion displays will light up additional graphics, statistics and sponsorship elements. Each scorers table features 5.9-millimeter pixel spacing and measures 2.5 feet high by 10 feet wide and can be organized into any configuration to fit the needs of SDSU Athletics.

Each stanchion features 2.5-millimeter pixel spacing and measures 1 foot high by 4 feet wide with one located on each side of the basketball hoop support structure.

Vomitory Display Details

Above the entrances and exits to the main seating bowl, 11 total vomitory displays will be installed, each featuring 5.9-millimeter pixel spacing. These displays all measure 2.5 feet high and vary in length from 5 feet wide to 36 feet wide. Five vomitory displays are located on the north end, two are located on the south end, one on the east club, one on the west club, one on the southeast club and one on the southwest club.

These displays offer the opportunity to highlight sponsors throughout events and can also be used together during larger event moments, such as intro videos, to bring one cohesive look across all displays in the arena.

Four event-level scoring displays also feature 5.9-millimeter pixel spacing and each measures 2.5 feet high by 15 feet wide. Similar to the vomitory displays, these can supplement content being played throughout the arena but will also be used to share critical game information such as scoring, time remaining, timeouts left and game quarter information.

Marquee Display Details

Outside the arena at the main entrances, two marquee displays will be installed to welcome fans to events. Each marquee features 8-millimeter pixel spacing with one measuring 3.5 feet high by 39.5 feet wide and the other measuring 3.5 feet high by 73 feet wide. These will also be able to share upcoming event information, sponsorship messaging and other information relevant to SDSU Athletics and the university as a whole.
