Kansas Jayhawks Delivering New Centerhung Experience from Daktronics
11-display configuration hanging inside Allen Fieldhouse
BROOKINGS, S.D. – Nov. 5, 2024 – A new visual look and feel for the University of Kansas is at Allen Fieldhouse in the form of an 11-display centerhung configuration from Daktronics (NASDAQ-DAKT) of Brookings, South Dakota. Kansas fans will see the visual improvements, including 27 additional displays, for the first time this season in Lawrence, Kansas.
“Allen Fieldhouse is an iconic venue and fans deserve the very best,” said Kansas Assistant Athletic Director for Broadcast Services Mike Lickert. “We have partnered with Daktronics to create a board that has state-of-the-art technology while respecting the history and tradition of the best venue in all of sports. I think the board will enhance fans' overall experience and continue to showcase Kansas Basketball and improve the game-day experience.”
Centerhung System Details
Four main video displays and four corner displays come together to form a seamless visual experience above the court inside Allen Fieldhouse. Each main display measures nearly 10 feet high by 18 feet wide and each corner display measures 10 feet high and curves around the corner to connect the main displays.
Each main display is capable of variable content zoning allowing for one large image to be shown or to allow for multiple zones of digital content. This includes any combination of live video, instant replays, statistics, graphics, animations and sponsorship messages.
Above the main displays, a ring display circles the top of the centerhung. This display measures 3.5 feet high by 87.5 feet wide and allows for supplemental content while also allowing for the opportunity to highlight sponsors throughout events.
Below the main displays, fixed-digit scoreboards will share critical game information such as score, time remaining, period and timeouts remaining – all the details that keep fans connected and immersed in the game.
On the underside of the centerhung, two video displays are angled toward the sidelines to appeal to fans sitting closer to the action. These displays provide similar content to the main displays and ensure all fans receive the same video display experience at every game.
“The new centerhung will immediately make a positive impact for the Jayhawks and their fans,” said Ryan Kuzman, Daktronics sales representative. “Allen Fieldhouse is an iconic college basketball venue and we’re thrilled to be a part of this project that will deliver a new, exciting element to an already fantastic fan experience and venue.”
Additional In-Bowl Displays
Supplementing the main centerhung, two upper corner video displays and 24 vomitory displays will be installed at Allen Fieldhouse. The two corner displays will each measure 14 feet high by 24.5 feet wide and feature the same variable content zoning abilities as the main centerhung video displays.
The 24 vomitory displays will be installed above the entrances and exits of the seating bowl and will each measure 2.5 feet high by 6.5 feet wide. These will be integrated with the rest of the video displays to add to the immersive experience while also allowing the university to support their sponsors and partners throughout events.
Each of these 26 displays will feature 5.9-millimeter pixel spacing for excellent image clarity and contrast.
Crimson Club Display
Inside the Crimson Club, an LED video wall will measure 9 feet high by 16 feet high and feature a tight 2.5-millimeter pixel spacing. This display will connect fans to the action while they are away from their seats and ensure they don’t miss any of the action. It can also be used for welcome messages, special announcements and other advertising as necessary.
