Daktronics and KKI Deliver First Home Theater Project in Korea Using COB Technology
The private cinema experience is ready for improved fine-pitch LED technology
BROOKINGS, S.D. – Aug. 22, 2024 – Daktronics and Kinoton Korea Inc. (KKI), a professional designing and engineering company, partnered to deliver a Flip-Chip COB (Chip On Board) LED video wall for Chunho Enterprise, a private cinema space in Gyeonggi-do, Korea. The installation is the first of its kind in a home theater setting using COB LED technology and was completed this summer.
Mr.Hyun-Seok Jung, a chief manager of Chunho Enterprise, after completing the installations of its private cinema theater in June 2024, said, “I was so excited to take a chance of experiencing a new world of the first COB-operated private cinema facility using the ultra-narrow pixel-pitched LED display based on the COB technology of Daktronics. In terms of the huge depth of various color generations of the indoor LED display, Daktronics’ COB technology we Chunho Group have chosen for our 1st private cinema theater in Korea is so fantastic and gathering the great attention of not only our chairman of Chunho Group but also most of professional A/V engineers. What a technology, which is believed to bring the potential private cinema customers more than 100% satisfaction in both stability and video quality of the Daktronics’ COB displays.”
COB Video Wall Details
The screen measures 2.7 meters high by 5.4 meters wide (roughly 9 feet high by 14.5 feet wide) and features a 1.2-millimeter pixel spacing allowing it to deliver crisp, high-resolution imagery within this home theater space. The technology allows for close viewing distances suitable for this application as well as increased durability to limit potential damage from shipping, installation and use.
“As an LED display manufacturer, we are thrilled to see the successful integration of our COB technology in Chunho Group's private cinema project, affirming our commitment to quality and innovation,” said Masahiko Watanabe, Daktronics sales representative. “The comprehensive quality checks by KKI at our factory ensure top-tier performance, while our competitive pricing makes high-end technology accessible and desirable for premium home theaters.”
The theater’s physical dimensions are 3.3 meters high by 6.2 meters wide on its front wall. The size of the private theater space of Chunho Group is a small space equipped with five seats. Therefore, for designing the cinema space required the consideration of heat transmission from the screen, of which Daktronics’ COB product produces very little. The display also delivers HDR (High Dynamic Range) technology for an optimal movie watching experience.
Completing the audiovisual experience, KKI installed 14 speakers of the Meyers sound systems with Dolby ATMOS to deliver an overall immersive experience.
