"This font is not permissioned for use." error, Font embeddability Restricted

Potential Symptoms

  • When attempting to load a custom font in Venus Control Suite (VCS) receive "An error occurred while uploading a file." stating that "This font is not permissioned for use."
  • 155942 FONT load issue 2021-07-19_14-19-55.png
  • Trying to add a generic TTF (true type font) to VCS, and getting the error.
  • An alert on an existing font in VCS, might be an indication it is restricted.
    • Font permissions may prevent the use of this font in certain browsers. FONTS in VCS with warning.png

Cause

  • Font embeddability is set to "Restricted".
    • Restricted could mean different aspects of the font; If restricted in any way, it will not be usable.

Resolution

  • Use a font with embeddability set to editable or installable.
