Blackmagic Video Assist Tool: How do I verify a signal for the Ross Xpression?

Topic

  • How do I verify a signal from a Ross Xpression with the Blackmagic video assist tool?

Environment

  • Product: Ross Xpression
  • Components: Blackmagic video assist tool
  • Control System:

Steps

  1. Verify that the Xpression is playing content, see: How can I verify that Ross Xpression playing content?
    • If your desired content is listed in the correct Output Monitor pane for the Matrox card, you can continue on to test for the content/signal on the appropriate SDI BNC output of the Xpression.
  2. Power on Video Assist using the Power Button on the side.
  3. Verify key and fill signal feeds from Xpression dongle connections.

    1. The Video Assist will auto-detect the input connection and format of the video signal and display that signal on the screen. Note: If multiple connections are active and attached to the Video Assist, input/output selection can be made using the touch screen menus.
    2. Check for Key and Fill outputs for alpha channel transitions
      • If the Ross player is setup to play transition animations, it will most likely be set up for both Key and Fill outputs which both must output correctly for overlaying of those graphics onto video.
      • The Xpression will play the Fill (animation/graphic) on SDI Out A and play the key color on SDI Out C. See figures below for an example of both signals outputting from the Expression.
