Content Studio: How do I configure custom possession indicators via sport media RTD?

Topic

  • I want to use an image of a basketball or football to indicate possession instead of < and > indicators.
  • Media RTD displays images instead of alphanumerical real time data.
This article is meant to show you how to put Media RTD into use. Refer to Show Control System: How do I create content with sport media RTD fields?

Environment

  • Product: Content Studio
  • Component: All Sport
  • Control System: Show Control System (SCS)

Steps

Saving media on DMP

DMP-8000 Supported File Types:  VMPL, VMPF, AVI, BMP, JPG, JPEG, PNG, MPG, MPEG, and SWF

  • Images must stored in the MediaRTD folder, located under C:\Program Data\Daktronics\VNET4\Content\MediaRTD

DMP-7000, see Venus 7000: How to display bitmaps based on data fields?

Naming media

  • Images must match the same name as the RTD field it will be linked to.
  • Possession information comes into the Daktronics system as the abbreviation POSS. Therefore, the basketball or football image files need to be named POSS.png.

Start a presentation in Content Studio

Once a new layout is opened, select the "Insert" tab along the tool bar, and select "Picture" to import a background for your graphic.

  1. Adding a background image to your GIP graphic is an easy way to make it stand out, and tie the graphic into the rest of your production.
  2. Navigate to the file you would like to use. Once it is selected the Image Import window will appear. Click Import to import the background.

Add data fields to your presentation
Use Media RTD in your score graphic

Once your images are placed in the MediaRTD folder for use, inside of Content Studio add the data field you would like to associate with these graphics.

  1. Select Home/Guest Possession Text ('  ' or 'POSS') and go to the Field Properties tab and select the check box that says "Is MediaRTD."
  2. Associate a sample graphic with your data field.
    • Navigate to your MediaRTD folder within the content folder, and select one of the corresponding graphics loaded so you can align the element properly within the image.

Possession arrow considerations

The indicator is often brightly colored and/or realistic looking footballs or basketballs are used with a slightly grayed out placeholder near each team name and/or logo.
Info.png

The football/basketball will fill in the placeholder depending on which team has possession as it is entered into the All Sport.
