NovaStar: How do I configure redundancy for a display using a sender box?

Topic

  • How to add redundancy (hot backup) for displays using a NovaStar Sender Box?

Environment

  • Product: Nova MCTRL 600, Nova MCTRL 660, NovaStar VX4S, NovaStar brand sender box and receiver cards
  • Components: NovaLCT-Mars
  • Control System: Market Standard or Limited Compliance using transmit common/open protocol
    • This includes but not limited to DVN-4003, Dragon Sticks, J Series, JVX, U Series, Q Series, QVN, Z Series, and ZPN.

Steps

There are 2 modes of redundancy.  One mode uses another port on the same sender box or a second sender box.  Also see: NovaStar: How do I configure redundancy for a display using multiple MCTRL 4K sender boxes?

Note: In the two-sender box scenario the send boxes must be cascaded together on a single USB chain.

Before configuration, please make sure the last receiver card is connected back to the sender box

Same Sender box:

  1. Open NovaLCT-Mars, enter Screen Configuration

  2. At sending card, click add in the redundancy section.

Set the sender box number and port number of the primary on the left-hand side and the corresponding backup on the right-hand side.

  1. See the single sender box example below: Single sender box example (Port 1=P Port 2=B)
    Capture2.JPG
  2. This would feed the last receiver card back to sender box, forming a loop within sender box and all receiver cards.

  3. Each set of ports must be added to the redundancy table individually.

  4. After all entries are added, close the settings box. Click the Send button below the redundancy table.  Then press the Save button at the bottom of the page.redundancy 4.png

2 sender boxes Example (SBC #1 - P SBC #2 - B)

Each set of ports need to be added to the redundancy table individually.

  1. Set Sending Card 1 as the Primary Sending Card and Sending Card 2 as the Backup Sending Card. And set Port 1 and Port 2 of Sending Card 2 as the backup of Port 1 and Port 2 of Sending Card 1 separately.
  2. Click Add to complete setting.
Note: To configure primary and backup on the following table, backup sending card can’t have a connection table. If there is a connections table, it would show error message "sending card xx and port xx can't be found as backup". This is because system recognize both sending card as mater device. Otherwise, it's also possible to achieve the backup function by making 2 screens and corresponding connections tables for each card. In this case, no more setting for the following tables is needed and system would have backup function as well.
