Venus Control Suite Local Install does not have the DMP & VIP showing up to be associated when going to Add Device

Potential Symptoms

  • DMP and VIP configured to use the server's hostname and not showing up to be associated when going to Add Device in VCS.
  • Unable to add or search for devices in VCS.
  • Receiving "There is nothing to show here yet" when attempting to add device.

Cause

  • The network is unable to resolve the local VCS computer name. 

    Resolution

    1. Configure the "Media Management Server" on the DMP and VIP to use the IP address for the local server rather than it's name.
      • Note: This can only be done on versions released since April 2016 (web V08.1043.0). Most recent version can be downloaded from https://dakfiles.daktronics.com//downloads/Venus/Server
      • Go to the Network and sharing center, on the VCS Host PC to find the IP address, or open a command prompt, and type "ipconfig". The Local Area Connection ethernet adapter is the one we are looking to get the IP address from.
    2. Re-open the Display>Devices "Add Device" button.
    3. Select the DMP and VIP from the list.
    4. Click Save.
      • Make sure the VIP is set to "active" in the devices area.
