Venus 7000: How do I layer zones or windows

Topic

  • How do I layer zones or windows in DMP-7000?
DMP-7000 controlled displays can be broken into windows or zones to play different content in different portions of the display. Windows are configured in layers, and allow many options for customization. This article guides users through the current Daktronics Standards for configuring layered windows in the DMP-7000 or Venus 7000 system.

DMP-7000 or Venus 7000 will reach end of support July 1, 2023. If you are interested in upgrading to the newest technology, visit Daktronics Professional Services to learn more.  https://www.daktronics.com/en-us/markets/sports/services

Steps

1. Create a new window. (if necessary)

  1. Begin on the DMP-7000 or Venus 7000 primary computer that controls the host display that requires windowing.
  2. On the Venus 7000 Shell click Configure.
  3. Choose the Signs tab. A list of current signs is shown.
  4. Click Add Sign. If an existing sign needs editing, highlight the appropriate sign and click Edit Sign.

2. Assign a sign name.

  1. Type in a name for the new sign. Follow Daktronics sign naming standards below. Click OK when finished.
  2. Daktronics sign naming standards.

  • Name First Size Second
    • Example: Main Video 90 x 288

Use direction when possible for describing sign location.
  • Example: North Video 504 x 1344

3. Set Number of rows and columns.

Insert the number of rows and columns for the new sign. This should be consistent with the information in the sign name above. No other fields need to be changed in this tab.

Window Signs must have a width divisible by 4, and a Height divisible by 1.

Note: The sign name is not an editable item. If a mistake/typo was made in the name, at this point it would be best to delete this sign and create a new one.

4. Assigning a window to a host.

1.  Choose the Advanced Tab.

2.  Enter an ERTD sign number in the Enhanced RTD Sign Number field based on the Daktronics ERTD Sign Numbering Standards. Click OK when finished.

  • 1-9………………………………………..……. Special Uses (Chyron, 720p card, etc.)
  • 10, 20, 30, etc……………………………... Host Signs
  • 11-19, 21-29, etc………………………… Windows on the corresponding host sign

5.  Choose the starting point for the window's top left corner.

1.    In the Signs tab, select the Host sign and click Edit Sign.

2.    Choose the Windows Tab.

Choose a blank row and check the Enable box. Click in the empty sign column to reveal a drop-down list of available signs. Select the desired sign, keeping in mind the Daktronics Windowing Standards listed below.

3.  Daktronics Windowing Ordering Standards for DMP-7000

Windows are layered in numerical order, with number 1 always being the top window, and higher numbers being layered underneath one another. Always make a full screen window as the first window. List windows in order of size, from the largest window (1) to the smallest window (…5, 6, 7 etc.). No more than 32 windows are permitted within any one host sign.

4.  Enter a starting point for the window in the row and column section of the window. Keep in mind that pixel 1, 1 is located in the top left hand corner of your display. The mode should remain copy, so that the data plays on top of the other windows.

5.  In the windowing example above, your display would look like:

Layer Windows 8.png

In the example above, the full window would always play through. In order to show content on the middle or bottom layer, you would need to add a line of script that blanks the full window. However, if you were playing something on the middle layer, and then played something to the full window, you would need to blank the middle window, due to the fact that the full window is the top layer, and its content will play over any other content.

6.  Restart the Sign Service

The Sign Service must be restarted for any changes to take effect. Upon clicking OK in the System Configuration box, Venus 7000 will prompt the user to restart the Sign Service.

1.  Follow the prompts to ensure the Sign Service restarts.

2.  Play content to the host and window(s) to verify configuration settings.

7.   Configure the any windows on any backup players (if applicable)

When configuring the Venus 7000 to represent the desired in-event looks, both the primary and backup must be set-up exactly the same in order for the Syncback application (content back-up application) to work correctly and effectively. In other words, all windows must be named exactly the same so the folder structure of the created windows is correct and the files can transfer from the primary computer to the backup computer.

1.  Reference the sign configuration information on the DMP-7000 or Venus 7000 primary computer.

2.  Navigate to the corresponding Venus 7000 backup computer. Repeat steps 1-6. Make sure the sign names and all the details are set up exactly the same way as the primary. Run the Syncback utility to mirror any content that is on the primary computer onto the backup.
