Venus Control Suite: How do I backup or restore VCS / OOT / User Portal configuration and content?

Topic

  • How do I Backup or Restore Venus / VCS / OOT / User Portal configuration and content?

Environment

  • Product: Venus Control Suite Locally Hosted
  • Component: Fusion backups
  • Control System:

Steps

Backup

  1. Close out of Display Studio and Venus User Portal website if logged in.
  2. Browse to C:\Program Files\Daktronics\Fusion
    1. If the folder above does not exist, browse to C:\Program Files (x86)\Daktronics\Fusion
  3. Run BackupFusion.Bat
    • The batch file will initiate the backup process and the window as shown below will appear. DO NOT close this window.
    • backupbat.jpg
  4. This process will take anywhere between 30 minutes to 2 hours to complete, depending on the database size and VCS will not be functional during this time.
  5. During the process, a .backup file will be created in the path C:\ProgramData\Daktronics\Fusion\Backups. This file is going to increase in size as the backup is in progress. At times it might appear that there is no progress. Wait patiently.

  6. Once the .backup file is done saving, a .backup.gz file will be created. At times it might appear that there is no progress. Wait patiently.
  7. Once the backup process is complete the black window will close out automatically, or will inform you that the back up process successfully completed, and to press any key to continue.
  8. Press any key to continue
  9. After the window closes, two files will be generated with the date and time stamp in the file name as shown below, indicating when the process started. Also note that the .backup file will be automatically removed. The .backup.gz and .bat files are the backup files needed to load the settings and database back.

Restore

  • Highly Recommend updating the old VCS to the latest version through Device Updater, if at all possible.
    • If the backup was saved with an older version of VCS, files will need to be moved to the following location on the new computer before executing the .bat file: C:\ProgramData\Daktronics\Fusion\Backups
  1. Run the Batch (.bat) file.
    • Note: If loading the backups to another computer, move the two files to the new computer and run the .bat file.
  2. Restart Daktronics fusion service.
    • You may have to restart all services or the whole machine if missing anything.

NOTE: If "importing" this backup to another computer, follow How to use the Rename Host Tool for local installations of Venus Control Suite.

NOTE: All configuration is located in the C:\ProgramData\Daktronics\Fusion\Default folder.
