Nucleus Error 'You must call the Bind method before performing this operation.' in the Event Viewer.

Potential Symptoms

  • When launching Venus 1500 v4, receive the following error:
    • Nucleus service could not be stopped. Cannot open Daktronics Nucleus Service on computer '.'.

  • When starting the Daktronics Fusion Service it starts and when you refresh the view, it is stopped again.
  • When viewing the Event Viewer Logs for Fusion, you see the following error:
    • You must call the Bind method before performing this operation.

Environment

  • Venus 1500 v4.18 and greater
  • Daktronics Fusion Server
  • D-LINK Communication

Cause

  • The USB D-Link adapter is configured to have duplicate or two IP addresses. For example (172.16.192.20 and 172.16.192.25).

    How to confirm if a Duplicate issue from COMMAND PROMPT:
  1. Go to Windows Start Menu.
    1. Windows XP - Click Run, type CMD and click Ok.
    2. Windows Vista, 7 - In Search Programs and Files type CMD, right-click CMD and choose Run as Administrator.
  2. In Command Prompt, type Ipconfig /all and hit [Enter].
  3. In the IP Configurations, look for D-Link USB2.0 Ethernet Adapter.
  4. You can view the IPv4 Address has a Preferred and a Duplicate IP Address.

Resolution

First try removing the duplicate IP addresses from the advanced tab of the D-Link local area connection.

Start the Fusion service and test Venus V4.

If that doesn't resolve the issue then follow the steps below.

Step 1: Uninstall and Reinstall the USB D-Link adapter driver.

  1. Go to Windows Start Menu -> Control Panel -> System -> Device Manager.
  2. Under Network Adapters, locate the USB D-LINK.
  3. Right-click and choose Uninstall.
  4. Unplug the USB Adaptor from the USB Computer Port.

Step 2: Uninstall the D-Link USB Installer software.

  1. Go to Windows Start Menu -> Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs or Programs and Features.
  2. Locate and select the USB D-Link Install software, choose Uninstall or Remove.
  3. Follow through all prompts.

Step 3: Re-Install the USB D-Link Adaptor.

Step 4: Start Daktronics Fusion Service.

Step 5: Launch Venus 1500 v4.

Note:  If there is no D-Link USB to Ethernet adapter, refer to (Daktronics Fusion Service starts then stops again, receive error 'You must call the Bind method before performing this operation.' in the Event Viewer, No D-Link adapter )
