DMP: How to change the default content file DMP plays at startup, Layout

  • How to change the default file that DMP plays when it starts up?
  • How to enable default content on DMP player.
  • Layout file appears to be playing on the DMP, however the zoning isn't showing up.

Steps

  1. Make sure layout file is added into the content folder.
    • Windows XP - C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Daktronics\Vnet4\Content.
    • Windows 7 - C:\Program Data\Daktronics\Vnet4\Content.
  2. Next there are two ways to do this step. it can either be done in the Primary.vmpl file, which is located in the \Daktronics\VNET4\Displays folder or it can be done in the advanced config section of the DMP webconfig.  

Using Primary .VMPL File - DMP8000 only (deprecated)

Option 1. Add default content line to primary.vmpl - this is recommended for DMP-8000 Revisions below 6.x

    1. Locate and open the Primary.VMPL file.
      • Windows 7 (C:\ProgramData\Daktronics\VNet4\Displays\Primary.VMPL
      • Windows XP (C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Daktronics\VNet4\Displays\Primary.VMPL
    2. Add the layout files location to the VMPL file.  After the styles the following a line can be added to designates what file it will play:
      NOTE: In this case, the default.layout file will be played whenever the DMP-8000 player is restarted.

      NOTE: If the Primary.VMPL file doesn't exist, look for a file called Primary_Template.VMPL. Rename the file to Primary.VMPL. If the template does not exists, contact the Technical Help Desk to receive one.

Using Web Configuration

Option 2. Add default content to web config - Recommended for DMP-8000 revisions 6.x and up

For DMP-8000 below 7.20

    1. Go to DMP web config.
    2. Add default content option and add the following lines. UniqueFileName is the name of the
    3. .vmpl, .vmpf, .avi, .mov, .mp4, .layout, .jpg, .png or .bmp file you want to play.

For DMP 7.33 and above

    1. Go to DMP webconfig.
    2. Click the wrench icon to get to the system configuration settings.
    3. Click on the default content button. 
      1. Click the tab from "Disabled" to "Enabled"
      2. In the File section, type default.layout or whatever your layout file is called.
      3. Click Save.
