Network Related or Instance Specific error while installing or updating Venus 1500 v4 with SQL 2005

Potential Symptoms

  • During install, the following window appears:
    • "A network-related or instance specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server.  The server was not found or was not accessible.  Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified)."

Environment

  • Venus 1500 v4 Install
  • SQL Server 2005

Cause

  • Error while installing SQL Server 2005.

Resolution

  1. Verify the SQL Server (Nucleus) service is running and set to a Local instance.
  2. Retry Installation.
  3. If it fails, uninstall SQL 2005 and manually install referencing How to install SQL Server 2005 manually, DD2187510.
  4. Restart installation of Venus 1500 v4.
