When installing Microsoft SQL Server 2008 receive error 'The installation of Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Express SP3 - Nucleus has failed. Setup will now exit." and folders are compressed.

Potential Symptoms

  • When installing Microsoft SQL Server 2008 receive error:
    • The installation of Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Express SP3 (x86 & x64Wow) - Nucleus has failed. Setup will now exit.

    • If installing SQL manually, may encounter the following error. "SQL install Attributes do not match. Present attributes (Directory, Compressed) , included attributes (0), excluded attributes (Compressed, Encrypted)"

Environment

  • Venus 1500 v4.18 or greater
  • Microsoft SQL Sever 2008

Cause

The Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Folder and/or the Venus 1500 Setup.exe file are compressed. Our software cannot be installed in a compressed location or be a compressed file.

  • SQL Server 2008

Step 1: Confirm if folder location is compressed:

  1. Go to the following location:
    1. Windows 32 Bit System - C:\Program Files
    2. Windows 64 Bit System - C:\Program Files (x86)
  2. Locate the Microsoft SQL Server Folder.

    • Is the Microsoft SQL Server folder or any of its contents name blue?
      1. Yes? Continue to Resolution.
      2. No? Check to make sure the Setup.exe is not compressed, by browsing to the location it is stored and see if it name is blue.

If the files do not appear compressed, please review the SQL Install logs at the possible following locations and search for other additional errors:

  1. Go to the following location:
    1. 32 Bit System - C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\
    2. 64 Bit System - C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\
  2. There are two locations that can show errors:
    1. Look in: \100\Setup Bootstrap\Log
      • Double-click and open Summery.txt in Notepad.
    2. Look in: \MSSQL10.NUCLEUS\MSSQL\Log
      • Double-click and open ERRORLOG in Notepad.

Resolution

If files/folders are compressed, follow the below resolution.

Step 2: Uncompress the Microsoft SQL Server folder.

  1. Go to C:\Program Files or C:\Program Files (x86).
  2. Right-click on the Microsoft SQL Server folder and choose Properties .
  3. From the General tab click Advanced .
  4. Uncheck Compress contents to save disk space, click Ok.
  5. Click Apply.
  6. Choose Apply changes to this folder, subfolders and files, click Ok.
    • Allow process to complete.

Step 3: Uncompress the Venus 1500 v4 Setup.exe file

  1. Browse to the location of where the Venus 1500 Setup.exe file is stored.
  2. Right-click on the Setup.exe and choose Properties .
  3. From the General tab click Advanced .
  4. Uncheck Compress contents to save disk space, click Ok.
  5. Click Apply.
  6. Choose Apply changes to this folder, subfolders and files, click Ok.
    • Allow process to complete.
