Serial radios, no communication, two output cables plugged into J-box

Potential Symptoms

  • Unable to get status to the display (Venus or M2config).
  • Good signal to J-box (loopback passes on serial cable input to J-box).
  • There are two output cables connected to the radio J-box (one hard-wired to terminal block and one in RS422 to Radio or 422 Device).
  • RX light on J-box is lit solid red, but goes out if one of the outputs is removed.
  • Serial radios, no communication, 2 output cables plugged into jbox

Cause

  •  Two serial outputs connected causing a shorted connection path (Radio J-box uses same connection path for both outputs).
    • Ethernet cable plugged into J-box as well as serial cable.

Resolution

  • Disconnect one of the two outputs.
    • Generally the hard-wired connection to the green terminal block (TB) is the main communication output.
