How to configure a fire alarm RTD sequence in Venus® 7000

Environment

Cause

Using V7 Sequence Designer, create an emergency message(s), and an all clear sequence(s) (blank or equivalent) to be displayed on the designated sign(s), such as in the example below.

Resolution

Remember to use a command frame to close windows if applicable. Reference the Venus® 7000 Controller Operator's Manual.

Sample Emergency Message:

 Configure the Custom RTD program.
a. Select the "Custom RTD" button from the Venus® 7000 Shell program.


b. Create a new file.


c. Click on the "Add Trans" icon to configure the transmissions.




d. In the "Transmission Description" dialog box, type "Play Fire Alarm Sequence".




e. Click on the "Output Commands" tab and then the "Add" button.


f. Click on "PlaySequence" in the" Select Output Command" window, and then click the "Next" button. *RTD PLAYSEQUENCE WILL NOT WORK*


g. Click on "Select Sign".


h. Select the correct sign from the "Select Sign" window and click "OK".


i. Verify the correct sign was selected, then click the "Next" button.


j. Click "Select Path" button.


k. Select the Fire Alarm sequence created earlier and click "OK".


l. Verify correct sequence is selected, then click "Next" button.



m. In the "Mode" drop down menu select "Continuous", then click "Next".



n. Click "Finish" button.



o. Click "Add" and repeat steps e - n to add more signs. When finished adding signs click the "OK" button.


p. Follow steps c - n to create Trans 2.
i. For Sep d, name Trans 2 "Play All Clear Sequence".
ii. For Step k, choose the "All Clear" sequence.
Note: Each script command needs to be added separately and each transmission needs to be created separately.
Note: Your scripts must be the local versions, the RTD versions will NOT trigger

q. Click on "I/O" Icon to edit ports.



r. Change the "Max Transmission Length" to 100.


 Click on "Edit Input" button.



t. Enter the following information in the "Enter Port Parameters" dialog box:



i. Name: Fire Alarm
ii. Port Type: Com Port
iii. Baud Rate: 9600
iv. Parity: None
v. Data bits: 8
vi. Port: Select the COM port that the interface is connected to.
vii. Comm Event Setup settings for a 25pin RS232 port:
1. CTS (5): Play Fire Alarm Sequence (Trans 1)
2. DSR (6): Play All Clear Sequence (Trans 2)
viii. Comm Event Setup settings for a 9 pin RS232 port:
1. CTS (5): Play Fire Alarm Sequence (Trans 1)
2. DSR (6): Play All Clear Sequence (Trans 2)

u. After all parameters are correctly entered click the "OK" button.


v. Then click on the "Close" button.


w. Click on the "Save" icon and save file as "Fire Alarm.Cp7" in the "C:\V7000" folder.


x. Click on "Add File" and select the "Fire Alarm.Cp7" to add it to the active file list.



y. In the Venus® 7000 Shell, click the "Diagnostics" button, select the "V7RtdS" service and click on the "Start" button, if the service is not already started.



If using Venus® 7000 version 6.9 or lower, to activate the Custom RTD program upon computer start up, use the following steps. For Venus® 7000 versions 6.10 and above, skip to step 4.
a. Right click on "My Computer" and select "Manage".


b. In the left hand pane, under "Services and Applications", select "Services".


c. In the right hand pane, double-click on "Venus 7000 Custom RTD".


d. Use the "Startup type:" drop down box and select "Automatic" and click "OK".

 If using Venus® 7000 versions 6.10 and above, use the following method to activate the custom RTD program upon computer start up.
a. From the Venus® 7000 Shell, click on "Diagnostics".



b. Under the Services tab, highlight the "V7CRtdS" service and click on the "Startup" button.



c. In the "Service Startup Type:" drop down menu, choose "Automatic", then click "OK".



d. In the Diagnostics dialog box, click "OK".

5. Close all Computer Management windows.

6. Restart the computer and verify the service starts automatically. If not, check the Log On information for the service.

7. To verify jumper settings on the Switch Interface, reference the following notes pertaining to DWG-00149080 :
a. Switch input 1 + = CTS (Jumper detail A)
b. Switch input 2 + = DSR (Jumper detail A)
c. Switch input 3 + = DCD (Jumper detail A)
d. Switch input 4 + = RI (Jumper detail A)

NOTE: To test fire alarm interface, and fire alarm sequence, could jumper the two pins on the phoenix plug used for the trigger.  For example, if pins 7 and 8 are for used for the fire alarm, and 5 and 6 for the all clear, you could jumper pins 7 and 8 with the ends of a paperclip that has been opened and then bent in half so the two ends are side-by-side and can effectively touch 7 and 8 of the phoenix plug.
