How do I enable or disable GPS dimming on a VLink 1500 or ValoPlay controller?

Cause

GPS dimming can be used to allow a display to brighten and dim on it's own until the light sensor can be installed or repaired.  While in GPS dimming mode the display will change from the minimum configured brightness level to the maximum based on the time of day and the location it is configured for.  Brightness levels will not change throughout the day based on ambient lighting.

Resolution

Before Activating GPS based Dimming override

Activating GPS based dimming override.

  1. Connect to the VLink or ValoPlay with VLMS.
  2. While on the Configuration tab, click the GPS submenu.
  3. Enter the latitude and longitude values for the location.
    • If latitude or longitude values are a negative value be sure to enter them as such.
  4. Click the "Enable Dimming" box so that it is "checked".
  5. Set the dimming mode to manual and 100% bright.
    1. Go to the Tools tab in VLMS.
    2. Select the radial button next to "Manual".
    3. Drag the slider bar to the far right (100%).
    4. Click the "Set" button.
  6. Click the "Configuration" tab.
  7. Click the blue down arrow to set configuration or click on "File" and then "Set Configuration".
    • Note:  if VLMS is closed out and reconnected to the display the longitude coordinates will show as 0 however they will still be correct in the actual configuration on the VLink.

Disable GPS based dimming override.

  1. Connect to the VLink or ValoPlay with VLMS.
  2. While on the Configuration tab, click the GPS submenu.
  3. Click the "Enable Dimming" box so it is no longer "checked".
  4. Set the dimming mode to auto dimming.
    1. Go to the Tools tab in VLMS.
    2. Select the radial button next to "Auto".
    3. Click the "Set" button.
  5. Click the "Configuration" tab.
  6. Click the blue down arrow to set configuration or click on "File" and then "Set Configuration".
