How do I complete a repair on Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1?

Resolution

CAUTION: The below instructions are for Windows XP or Vista Only. Please see below note for instructions on how to repair the Microsoft .NET Framework on Windows 7.

  1. Close all running software applications.
  2. Go to Windows Start Menu -> Control Panel -> Add or Remove Programs or Program and Features.
  3. Select Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1.
  4. Click Change, Remove or Repair.
    • This will launch a Setup Wizard.
  5. Select the Repair option, click Next.
  6. The wizard will perform a repair on the .NET Framework installation.
  7. It is suggested to restart the computer.


NOTE:

  • Windows 7 does not have a Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 sp1 listed in Programs and Features. The .NET Framework 3.5 is part of Windows 7 Operating System as a feature and is not something that can be removed or repaired. There is one way to try and repair the Windows 7 .NET Framework 3.5 sp1, refer to Microsoft KB929833 How to use the System File Checker.
  • Another option is to download and repair .NET framework utilizing the Microsoft repair tool.
    1. Go to the Microsoft download center.  Locate and download the NetFxRepairTool https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/search/explore?q=netfxrepairtool
