Display Module: How do I remove it?

How do I remove the modules to access the interior of my display or replace the module

Resolution

  1. Shut off power to the display at the breaker panel.
    • This step may be skipped if troubleshooting a signal issue and need content on sign to locate outage.
  2. Locate the latch access fastener holes on the module.  One is centered near the top and one is centered near the bottom.

  3. Using the T-handle module tool or a 1/8" hex wrench, turn the latch access fasteners a quarter turn. See sub-bullets below for details on the direction to turn them to remove the module.
    • For AF-3150, AF-3160, or AF-3165 models - the top one should be turned clockwise and the bottom one counter-clockwise.
    • For all other models - turn both the latch access fasteners a quarter turn counter-clockwise. 
  4. Gently pull the module far enough forward to reach behind it and disconnect the power and signal cables.
    • If display is using ribbon cables, disconnect the two from the module by spreading the tabs on the sides and then lifting the cable head from the jack.  Note the cable connections so they can be reconnected correctly.
    • If display is using SATA cables, disconnect the two from the module by squeezing the tabs on the sides of the plug and pulling out.  Note the cable connections so they can be reconnected correctly.
    • Unplug the power cables by squeezing the tabs on the sides of the plug and pulling out.
  5. When ready to reinstall the module, reconnect the cables, making sure that the ribbon cable tabs are tightly pushed against the cable head or the SATA cables a pushed securely against the module.  Carefully push the signal and power wires back into the cabinet so they are clear of the module edges.
  6. Place the module into its proper location, checking that the weather stripping is in place.  Latch the module at both the top and bottom locations by turning the hex wrench clockwise a quarter turn.
  7. Restore power to the display.
Note: Module latches must be fully engaged to create a watertight seal around the module's edge.  The module must be firmly seated against the display when the latches are fully engaged.
