How to start a test pattern on an MLC 405x

Potential Symptoms

How to start a test pattern on an MLC 405x?

Environment

  • Product Family: Message Displays
  • Product: AF-3500
  • Component: MLC 405x
  • Control System: Venus 1500, Display Studio

Resolution

  • MLC405x microcontroller revision 35 and later supports DIP switch lockout.  This feature was implemented to prevent a faulty DIP switch from running module test patterns.
  • On the S2 switch of the MLC the switches are numbered from bottom to top 1 thru 4.
  1. Run the following sequence in 10 seconds or less
    1. Switch DIP #1 up
    2. Switch DIP #4 up
    3. Switch DIP #1 down
    4. Switch DIP #4 down
  2. If the sequence is input correctly, the test patterns are unlocked and DS3 (MLC4051) illuminates.
Test patterns remain unlocked as long as at least one DIP switch is up.  After all DIP switches are down, the MLC waits 10 seconds before locking test pattern.
