Error 1069, "Windows could not start the SQL Server (NUCLEUS) service on Local Computer", SQL Server set to wrong account

Potential Symptoms

  • Receiving nucleus error when trying to open Venus 1500 v4.
  • Receive error "Verifying services loaded failed. Nucleus Service failed to load" when opening Venus.
  • Receiving error "The SQL Server (Nucleus) service is not running. Please try restarting this machine or running as administrator" when launching Venus 1500.
  • Error "Windows could not start the SQL Server (NUCLEUS) on Local Computer. For more information, review the System Event Log. If this is a non-Microsoft service, contact the service vendor, and refer to services-specific error code 5".
  • Windows Event Viewer shows error with the Service Control Manager: "The MSSQL$NUCLEUS service was unable to log on as NT SERVICE\MSSQL$NUCLEUS with the currently configured password due to the following error: Logon failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer.
  • Alternatively, may see to following Fusion event error in Windows Event Viewer: An Exception Occurred. "InvalidOperationException: You must call the Bind methos before performing this operation."
  • When viewing services on the computer, find the SQL Server (Nucleus) Service is not running.
  • When manually attempting to start the SQL Server (Nucleus) service,  receive "Could not start the SQL Server (NUCLEUS) service on Local Computer. Error 1069: The service did not start due to a logon failure."
  • Error "Failed to register type library:" when installing Venus 1500 V4.
  • May get an Error 1067 error when starting the service.
  • SQL service cannot be started and shows the following error message:

    • "Windows could not start the SQL Server (NUCLEUS) on Local Computer. For more information, review the System Event Log. If this is a non-Microsoft service, contact the service vendor, and refer to service specific error code -2146885628."

Environment

  • Product:
  • Components: Microsoft Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, or 10 Operating Systems
  • Control System: Venus 1500 v4, Vanguard Professional, Show Control Systems

Cause

  • The SQL Server (NUCLEUS) is set to an account type other then Local System account.

Resolution

Set the SQL Server (NUCLEUS) service to Local System account in order for the service to start and run properly by following the steps listed below:

  1. Open the Services window for local computer.
    • Windows XP:
      1. Navigate to Windows Start Menu and select "Run".
      2. In the Run window, input "services.msc" and then press "Enter".
    • Windows Vista - 7:
      1. Navigate to Windows Start Menu.
      2. In "Search programs and files" section at bottom of the start menu, type "services.msc" and press "Enter".
    1. Windows 8 & 10:
      1. Navigate to the Windows Start Menu
      2. Start typing "services.msc" and then press "Enter".
      • Note: Windows 8 will not have a search bar until you start inputting text on the keyboard. Windows 10 is the same way, but you can also search directly from Microsoft Cortana. If searching through start menu, it will automatically switch to Microsoft Cortana search.
  2. When Services window is open, navigate to "SQL Server (NUCLEUS)."
  3. Right-click "SQL Server (NUCLEUS)" service and select "Properties."
  4. In the "SQL Server (NUCLEUS) Properties" Window, click on the "Log On" tab.
  5. In the "Log On" tab, select "Local System account" and then click "Ok"(Note: If this option is grayed out you will need to run services.msc as an administrator).
  6. Start the SQL Server (NUCLEUS) service (Right click "SQL Server (NUCLEUS)" and then select "Start").
  7. Locate the Daktronics Fusion and Daktronics Nucleus Server services and make sure they are started as well.
