Venus 1500: How do I check that the COM port I am using is the correct one for my software?

Environment

  • Product: Galaxy Displays
  • Components: Serial Com Port or USB to Serial adapter
  • Control System: Venus 1500

Resolution

Step 1: Verify Com port assigned by PC.

  1. Right-click on My Computer or Computer.
  2. Select Manage.
  3. Select Device Manager.
  4. Select Ports (COM & LPT).
  5. Take note of what COMs are listed.  One should be specific for the adaptor you have installed onto the computer.
Step 2: Verify what COM Venus 1500 Software has setup.
  • Venus 1500 Version 3
    1. Administrator button.
    2. Select "Display Configuration"
    3. Select display having issue with.
    4. Verify COM used for display is same as PC has in device manager.
      • If it is not then either create or modify direct network for COM that is listed in device manager and assign to display.
  • Venus 1500 Version 4
    • Select Menu Button in upper left hand corner.
    • Select Configure.
    • Select Displays.
    • Select Display that needs com port setup.
    • Select Continue in lower right till you get to Select a COM port page.
    • Verify COM used for display is the same as PC has in device manager.
