Connect to the software
Connect to the software user interface through one of these options:
- Wired (network): Plug a customer-provided CAT5 cable into the NETWORK jack on the controller and navigate to http://fuelink5
- Wired (direct): Plug a customer-provided CAT5 cable from a computer to the NETWORK jack on the controller and navigate to http://fuelink5.local

Diagnostics
- Go to the Diagnostics menu to access the following monitors and tests to troubleshoot display issues.
- POS Monitor- This view shows the data received on the POS port and is useful for troubleshooting POS interface problems.
Run Tests
Click the play button to run a test. A green checkmark will appear if the test passes, while a red X will appear if the test fails.
Note: When performing loopback tests, it is recommended to disconnect any cable/harnessing to external equipment.
- 485 Loopback Test – Wire Sign Port A to Sign Port B and then run the test.
- 485 Port A/B Internal Loopback – These tests check internal function of the transceivers (unnecessary if the 485 Loopback Test passes).
- 232 Port Loopback – Short pins 2 and 3 on the POINT OF SALE jack, and then run the test to check RS-232 operation.
- Run Test Pattern
- None – Return to default operation.
- All Off – Blank the displays.
- Linear Addresses – View the addressing of each module within the entire system.
- Node Addresses – View the addressing of each module within its display.
- Module Permissions – View the hierarchy of display control. Each module will display G (Grandparent), P (Parent), or C (Child).
- Display Borders – Show a line around modules that are configured as “displays”.
- Product ID – View the content type (Price or Message) assigned to each display. • Firmware Version – View current software version installed on each module.
- Signal Direction – View signal routing; can be used to detect incorrect input/output connections.
- Alternating Rows – Cycle through each horizontal row of the display.
- Error Codes – (Reserved for future display diagnostic functions and test patterns.)
- Font Version – View current font version installed on each module.
- Hardware ID – View the hardware version of each module.
- Temperature – View operating temperature of each module in degrees Celsius. System Tools Use these tools only if instructed by Daktronics!
Status LEDs
Indicator lights:
- When everything is operating normally, the STATUS LED will show a regular slow blink with equal on and off times. If any other pattern is displayed, check the software user interface for further information.
- The POWER LED should be ON steady. If not, check the power connection.
- The RUN LED blinks with processor activity. If ON steady or always off, there is a problem.
Symptoms & possible solutions
⚠️Unable to connect to user interface web page.
- Verify POWER LED is ON. If not, check power connection.
- Verify STATUS LED is blinking. If not, cycle power, wait ~1 minute to reboot and attempt to connect again.
- Wired network connection – verify LEDs are lit on the NETWORK jack. Check network cable connections and customer network equipment.
- Wi-Fi connection – Refer to Connecting to Software (above) to connect directly to the “Fuelink 5” access point and verify customer Wi-Fi network settings.
⚠️Unable to find any radios.
- Verify radios have power (PWR LED is lit up).
- Verify all radios are set to the same Network ID and channel. Refer to Wireless Communication to Display-Fuelink 5: How do I install and connect to the controller?.
⚠️Prices are not updating, or only update intermittently.
- Make a manual price change as described in Fuelink 5: How do I configure products and prices for my display, and watch the status window at the bottom of the page.
- The messages in the status window will indicate where the price change is failing. Use this information to determine where to look for communication problems.
- Problems that can be detected automatically will be indicated in the System page by a red triangle. If manual price changes do work, there may be a problem with the POS interface itself or the connection to it. Refer to the issue below.
⚠️POS interface not working, but price can be changed manually.
- Go to Diagnostics > POS Monitor to verify data received when a price change is initiated on the POS.
- POS price change problems can be caused by physical connection issues or incorrect POS settings. Refer to the Fuelink 5 POS Interface Guide (DD5403695).
⚠️Price display is blank.
- Verify proper power to the display. Refer to the Daktronics FL-5000 Series Display Installation & Service Manual (DD5042067).
- Verify an All Off test pattern is not running. Refer to Run Tests in the section above.
⚠️Price display is partially blank.
- There are status LEDs built into each display module to help troubleshoot display problems. Refer to the Daktronics FL-5000 Series Display Installation & Service Manual (DD5042067).
⚠️Price format is incorrect.
- Refer to Configure Displays Fuelink 5: How do I detect displays and format my display
⚠️Font is incorrect
- Refer to Configure Displays Fuelink 5: How do I detect displays and format my display.
⚠️Display is garbled or looks odd in any way
- Refer to Configure Products/Prices Fuelink 5: How do I configure products and prices for my display to select the proper content for each display.
- Displays ship from the factory preconfigured, but if modules are replaced or moved around within the display, reconfiguration is required. Fuelink 5: How do I detect displays and format my display
⚠️Display is unexpectedly switching between prices
- Multiple frames have been selected. Reference: Fuelink 5: How do I configure products and prices for my display
