Venus 7000: How to Create and Move Windows
Topic
- Set up or edit windows in V7000.
Environment
- Product: DMP-7000
- Component: V7000
- Control System: Venus 7000
Steps
- Open up the Venus 7000 Shell and click on the 'Configure' button.
- Select the 'Signs' tab.
a. If you just want to edit existing windows, skip to Step 6. - Click on the 'Add Sign' button.
- Put in a descriptive name for the window (Left Half 360x640, for example.) and click 'OK'.
- Adjust the Rows and Columns to the desired size. Match the Color Technology and Pixel Technology with the host sign (see Step 6-a for more info on host signs.) and click 'OK'.
- Highlight the host sign you want to create/edit windows for and click the 'Edit Sign' button.
a. A host sign is the sign used to control the display. All windows should be associated on a host sign. If you are unsure which sign is the host, it will have a driver in the 'Driver' column in the 'Signs' tab. - In the new window that opened select the 'Windows' tab.
- To add a window, click on a blank spot under the 'Sign' column and select the window you want.
- If you want the window to open automatically when the computer starts, click the 'Enabled' box. Note, making the sign 'Enabled' is only required if you want the window to be open on startup. You can still control and play content to a window if the box isn't checked.
- To adjust where a window will open on the host sign, use the 'Row' and 'Column' numbers to the right of the display. For example, if you have a 100x100 sign and want your 100x50 window to open on the right half you would set the 'Column' number to 51. This would shift the window over 50 pixels from the left.
- Click 'OK' until you get back to the Shell. It will ask you to restart the sign service, select 'Yes' until sign service has been restarted.
- Your window is now set up. Below are a few things to keep in mind when using windows.
When using windows there are a few things to be aware of.
- Always make sure that something is playing on the host sign when using a window. It doesn't matter what content is playing, but something must be playing on the host for any windows to play out. Normally a blank sequence is used if it's going to be completely covered by windows.
- When making content for windows, know that pure black (0 red, 0 green, 0 blue) is going to be used as transparent if the Mode column was set to Overlay when you added a window to the host. If that color is used, whatever is playing behind the window will show through. To get a black color, just use a slight variation (0 red, 0 green, 1 blue, for instance) or make sure that Copy mode is selected.
- Be aware that windows work in layers. window 1 is on top, and it goes down after that. So if you have content playing on window 2, but window 1 is open it will cover any part where they overlap. Since the host display is at the very bottom any open window will cover parts of the host. For this reason, it is important to check which windows are open if you aren't getting any content out to the display when playing things on the host.
- Script buttons can be created to Open/Close windows, but you can also manually do it when testing or troubleshooting. To do this, click on the 'Display' button on the bottom left from the Venus 7000 Shell. On the top left of the V7Dsply program there should be a 'Display' button, click on that. Expand 'Local' by clicking on the '+' button, then right click on your host sign and select 'Windows...'. You should have Window Control open now, that looks like the one used to add and remove signs. Any windows 'Enabled' here will be open. Once you have enabled or disabled the windows you want, click 'Apply' then 'OK'.
