Venus Web Editor: How do I make content that pages data?

Topic

This article describes how to increment or sequence the supply of data into a data-driven content template created in the Venus Web Editor.  Data paging logically organizes and presents the data in ways that are flexible and easily designed for consumption.

Venus Web Editor Data Paging allows users to define the following:

  • The amount of data-driven pages to increment
  • The length of time to keep the pages of data displayed
  • The behavior when the data is complete.

Data Paging increments through the XML data (JSON) item by item with a single piece of content/template.  This is important because you may not know how many items are in the feed at a given time.

Use cases:

  • Lists of Data
  • Menu Information
  • Social Media XML feeds
  • Stock Price Spreadsheets

Environment

  • Product: Web Editor
  • Component: Data Tools, Data Paging, RSS feed URL or XML URL

In the example below, we will use a CNN RSS feed to show how we would page through multiple breaking news stories.

Define Record
Add one or more data elements to a presentation. This could be the first row of related data that would be presented in a table format. An example of this would be a item name and price for a menu or a image/title for news updates (as seen below).

  1. Align and format the fields as needed.
  2. Go to Data List and select create record.
  3. Click on the + symbol to duplicate the records, this allows you to display multiple items at one time.  Also see: Venus Web Editor: How do I add new records to my paging list?
