Data Studio: How do I upgrade from DXTR Data Sources

Venus Control Suite is releasing advancements for using data with messages.  With that, Data Studio is now the preferred app for managing social media and other feeds in VCS. This app replaces the need for the extra program called Daktronics XML to RTD or DXTR that was used for managing RSS feeds, Twitter feeds, NFL Next Gen Stats, and MLB Mass Relevance.

The content template for social media feeds can be created in either Content Studio or the Venus Web Editor.  This will use the new Data Paging feature that allows users to define the following in the content template:
  • The amount of data-driven pages to increment
  • The length of time to keep the pages of data displayed
  • The behavior when the data is complete.

  • Product: Venus Professional, Venus Enterprise

  • Control System: Venus Cloud-Based, Venus Local

Steps

The new Data Studio is located under My Apps. Use this to configure data feeds with your presentations. 
The content template will be created and saved from Show Control's Content Studio.

General Process: 

  1. Create a new data feed in Data Studio.

  2. Update content in Content Studio to use the new data feeds.

  3. Set up content so that the data pages as needed. Data Paging will increment through the XML data (JSON) item by item with a single piece of content.  This is important because you may not know how many items are in the feed at a given time.

  4. Verify and remove the old data feeds in DXTR.
