VFC: Default Redundant Fiber Requirements
Potential Symptoms
- VFC is flagging a controller error but can still communicate with display (error is informing user Redundant Fiber is not in use or available because only 1 of 2 fiber ports are in use.)
- VFC System health reporting Connection to display error(Sync Loss) for only one:
- Prolink A or Prolink B
- DMP web user interface NTCIP error. Subsystem - Controller Status Error.
- Controller error – ProLink A – Sync Loss or controller error – ProLink B – Sync Loss
Environment
- VFC , DMP-50XX
- Vanguard product
Cause
- One of the two fiber ports is showing "Sync Loss"
- This activates a controller error that will flag in NTCIP software
- Redundant Fiber is required by default in the VFC configuration
- With the correct VFC firmware the user is able to turn off the Redundant Fiber Requirement.
- Sync Loss is still notated in the VFC but the error will no longer be notified in NTCIP software.
Resolution
- Login to the controller.
- Navigate to sign 1.
- Select Configuration.
- Select System
- Select Optional.
- Arrow down 3 times.
- Select Option 6 "Redundant Fiber Required."
- If you do not see the option available Firmware is most likely out of date
- Update VFC firmware to version v8.93.0.36 or newer. How to update firmware on a VFC controller
- Select Redundant Fiber Not Required.
- Redundant Fiber requirements wont take effect until the VFC is Reboot.
- Cancel until back to Signs and Shared option
- Select Shared
- Select Option 4 Reset
- Select Option 1 Reboot and Confirm
- After Reboot confirm Controller status is unchanged and the Controller Error no longer surfaces
For Temporary Operation
- Previous steps provided could be considered as a temporary fix until redundant fiber is installed.
- One fiber pair is the minimum requirement for communication
- It is recommended to install redundant fiber when using Vanguard displays
- 1 pair for port A (TX/RX) & 1 pair for port B (TX/RX).
- VFC Port A will feed to Port A of the first display and Port B on the VFC will connect to Port B of the last display. This creates the full Redundancy between the VFC and display(s).
