Designing A Welcoming Front Door to the Airport
The Sioux Falls Regional Airport (FSD) completed a $62 million parking garage project, entirely financed with local airport funds. An enclosed glass and steel skybridge connects the garage to the terminal. Inside are angled quick ramps for easy access, digital displays to guide drivers to available spaces, and 22 electric vehicle charging stations across multiple levels. On the outside, this innovative facility features large, wraparound Daktronics video walls to communicate with travelers, strategically placed to maximize visibility from the busy highway.

24x58-foot digital LED displays
The Daktronics LED displays are featured on the corners of the parking facility. Both installations are 24-feet by 58-feet in dimension and feature seamless 90-degree LED corners. The displays offer a platform for custom dynamic content including advertising and welcoming visitors, strategically placed to maximize visibility from the busy highway.
The parking facility features an Automated Parking Guidance System from TKH Security (formerly Park Assist). Camera-based guidance systems can track vehicles entering and exiting on each level so Daktronics digital LED boards can display real-time updates on where to park. This data can also be fed to airport websites and apps.
With its innovative design and advanced technology, the garage serves as a welcoming front door to the airport. For travelers parking vehicles, they can avoid some of the ice and snow in the winter months and heat in the summer, improving the overall experience.
The walls should really stand out to those driving by on Minnesota Avenue and to those coming into the airport. They add to the dramatic new appearance of the airport’s exterior.
