Preseason basketball is underway and the Oklahoma City Thunder have some new hardware to show off inside Paycom Center. We’re talking about, of course, the LED video display system! When looking to improve the fan experience at any venue, LED technology is one of the most visual and obvious things that can make an immediate impact.
So what did the OKC Thunder do? They asked us to provide TWENTY-TWO new displays! Together, they total 6,300 square feet of digital canvas for the team and venue to use to connect with their audiences and immerse their fans in the live action.
Let’s Talk About The Centerhung
This is the centerpiece of it all. It hangs above the court and shows all the videos and replays fans expect. It also shows the game information such as score and time remaining and all the other statistics required to keep people aware of the details of the game.
The new technology at Paycom Center is a seamless video display that wraps all the way around the four sides of the configuration ad measures 24.5 feet high by 125 feet around. Above that, there’s a large ring display that measures 8 feet high by 144 feet around. But that’s not all! Underneath the centerhung, a continuous underbelly display caters to fans sitting closer to the action. These measure 10 feet high by 105 feet around.
What About The Other Displays?
This is where fans are surrounded by technology and pulled further into the live action. A total of 19 vomitory displays are installed inside the seating bowl. You’ll find them in the corners, the sideline, the baseline, above the tunnels, at the end of the arena on the floor level, at the sides of the arena on the floor level and a special Loud City location.
These all measure about 2.5 feet high and vary in length from 5 feet to 54 feet wide depending on their location. And they integrate with the centerhung for coordinated content during big moments including player intros, tip-off videos and anything else the Thunder can dream up!
Highlighting sponsors throughout the event helps bring ROI to Paycom Center while also recognizing the partners they work with to make these live events come together and be successful for the team and fans.
These new displays in 2023 combine with a 360-degree ribbon display mounted to the seating fascia that we previously installed at the venue to surround fans in lights. And we can’t forget the 40 pendant displays throughout the concourse that were delivered in 2020 to connect with fans while they’re away from their seats and keep them informed of all the action happening in the bowl. All of these displays come together to deliver an unforgettable game-day experience.
Thunder Take Control
To operate and produce a live game production using these displays, the Thunder had Daktronics Show Control System complete with Camino real-time graphics rendering capabilities and Basketball Data Studio. This system is powerful and industry-leading; robust yet intuitive and easy to use. Essentially, it integrates all the displays together and lets the production team coordinate all the content they want to show the fans.
Next up for Paycom Center and the OKC Thunder? The regular season with a new shiny toy that fans are sure to notice!
