On Wednesday, September 9th, Daktronics received the announcement that MLBAM will be changing how they deliver traditional pitch data along with enhanced pitch and batted ball data. As outlined in the documentation, the changes are targeted at the 2016 season, but are going to be made available for remainder of the 2015 season for testing purposes. This new data feed should not affect any of your current setup or production for the remainder of the 2015 season.
For the 2015 All Star game in Cincinnati, we interfaced to this new MLBAM feed in order to obtain speed of pitch and batted ball distance for the HR Derby. However, the data delivery proved too slow, and the feed was not used for the HR derby. Our primary focus for the remainder of the 2015 season will be testing delivery speed as well as understanding the enhanced data set.
Looking forward to the 2016 season, we are excited to open up this new data set to our customers and work with them on the best way to educate and entertain their fans. We welcome any and all feedback on how best to display this data that has never been available in the past. Please send feedback to tony.kuck@daktronics.com. We are also excited to announce that we will be having a Baseball User Group seminar this January in Brookings. This topic along with many others will be will be at the top of the list for discussion. More details to follow.
