Daktronics Thanks Lare Short for Five Years of Dedicated Service

Lare grew up in Cranston, Rhode Island, and attended college at New England Institute of Technology where he received his bachelor’s degree in digital recording arts. After college, Lare found himself working multiple jobs in his field, some even at the same time. From 2009 to 2012, he worked as a freelancer at ATR Treehouse in Providence, Rhode Island, an AV technician for PSAV at the Hotel Viking, a board operator for Clear Channel, and a video producer for 989 Productions. However, he soon found those jobs were not helping him grow anymore. That is where his journey towards Daktronics began.

Lare’s girlfriend at the time, Samantha (now his wife), had just graduated college and wanted to move back to her hometown area, near Sioux City, Iowa, because she was having difficulty finding a job in Rhode Island. They took a big leap of faith and decided to move to the Midwest.

“At the time South Dakota had the second lowest unemployment in the country, behind North Dakota,” Lare explained. “We moved here with intentions of finding employment in our field. I had heard of Daktronics, but at the time of moving they were not hiring. So, when we moved here I applied to KCPO in Sioux Falls and worked there for about four months before I eventually applied for a Help Desk position at Daktronics.”

Lare described that day he was first hired at Daktronics, saying, “I think my favorite memory the last five years was honestly when I first got hired, because I had never worked for such a large company and it was an overwhelming and incredible day and experience for me.”

Lare worked in the Help Desk position for two years before he gained his current job as an applications engineer.

“I now work as an application engineer for Corporate which involves me pricing and designing new control solutions for customers,” Lare said. “Sometimes the more complicated system upgrade or re-design will come across my desk as well and I test and try to bring in new third-party products, which is the more engineering part of my job.”

Lare’s boss, Kyle Eide, says he is grateful to have Lare part of the Daktronics team.

“Lare brings a unique perspective to each project that he works on. His experiences prior to Daktronics have provided new insights into how we can provide solutions for some of the newer projects we see,” Kyle said. “Lare is always willing to learn about new products and help his teammates complete critical tasks. Lare brings a positive attitude every day and is an important member of our team.”

Lare and his wife, Samantha, have a 3-year-old daughter named Ellie, and a 1.5-year-old son named Henry. They are expecting another baby boy who will arrive in the spring. In his free time, Lare enjoys spending time with his family, writing, and enjoys gaming and watching sports. He writes short films and has been writing a fiction book, which he hopes to publish sometime in the near future.
