When a school debates on whether to purchase a scoring system, cost is always a factor. But, it’s nice to know all of your options, especially those where you’re not paying all out of pocket. Chesaning High School is a prime example of how one school afforded a system with the help from its town.
Chesaning, Michigan, is a town of around 2,500 people. With a town this small, it’s easy to question whether a scoring system can be funded. This was one of the biggest concerns for Robert Sager, Chesaning High School’s athletic director.
“Our town is very small with a limited number of businesses. I was very concerned that we wouldn’t be able to raise the funds we needed to make our purchase,” said Sager.
But little did Sager know, the small town of Chesaning would pull together to make a tremendous move.
“We ended up raising $125,000 in the first 6 hours! With the documents Daktronics Sports Marketing (DSM) provided, it made selling the partnerships very easy,” added Sager.
The DSM team created documents that included all of the events Chesaning High School would hold at its stadium along with the number of spectators at each.
“DSM calculated the number of hits businesses would get per year. We then visited with different businesses in our community and asked them for a 5-year agreement with a certain payment per year,” said Sager.
After Sager met with the DSM team, he was positive funding the display would work. The best part? It did. Chesaning High School now sports an attractive scoreboard and display with numerous sponsors surrounding the system.
