StatCrew Running on a Virtual Machine is not Communicating with DSTI

Potential Symptoms

  • StatCrew running on virtual machine is not creating file in correct location for DSTI to read.
  • No stats on display.
  • May work for other sports.

Environment

  • Product Family: Control System; Software
  • Product:
  • Component: DSTI; Stat Crew
  • Control System: Show Conteol System (SCS)

Cause

  • Virtual machine has it's own drive directory when compared to actual machine. When writing a file to the C:\ drive on the virtual machine it is not the same as writing to the C:\ drive of the actual machine.

Resolution

  • Share the StatCrew folder on the actual machine.
  • Create a network drive on the Virtual machine to the Shared StatCrew folder on the actual machine.
  • Verify that Monitor file writes to the network drive in TasCom 32.

Work Around

  • If network sharing isn't a viable option, USB forwarding can be used.
  • Admin rights on the actual and virtual machine are needed to go into the device manager on the actual machine to forward the USB recognition to the Virtual Machine.
  • Once the Virtual Machine sees the moxa cable (or other USB to Serial cable), TasCom 32 can be set up on the virtual machine to send the comfile directly to DSTI.
  • Consult with your IT department to see if this is a viable option for your setup and to ensure you have the appropriate Admin rights on the computer/virtual machine.
