How to troubleshoot time being slow or fast on Time and Temp displays

Topic

How do I troubleshoot / determine the cause of time running slow or fast on my Time and Temp display?

Environment

  • Product Family: Time and Temp Displays
  • Product:  DF-1010, DF-1011, DF-1012
  • Components:
  • Control System: DM-100 Handheld

Steps

Time and Temp displays have both a transformer (pn T-1072) that can be used for keeping time using the 60Hz frequency or the onboard real time quartz clock (RTC).

Approach 1

  1. First measure output voltage from transformer (~11 VAC to verify transformer is still functioning)
  2. Try disconnecting the transformer from the master/host driver
  3. Set the time correctly via the DM-100
  4. Monitor the display(s); will likely need to monitor displays for a few weeks to determine if issue has resolved
  5. If issue is still present then see Time and Temp display, time fast or slow: bad driver, DD2098861
  6. If the issue has resolved replace the transformer or leave transformer disconnected permanently
    1. note: issue may not be with transformer but due to variances in frequency of incoming power from site to site
    2. That is incoming power at one site could be 59.999997 Hz which means time will run slow at that site is using incoming power for time keeping
    3. At another site, incoming power may be at 60.00001 Hz which means time will run fast if using incoming power for time keeping

Approach 2

  1. The master driver controls time for both displays in a master slave configuration
  2. Simply swap the drivers and transformers between the two displays and see if the issue resolves
  3. Make sure to also swap the protocol plug between the drivers.
