Potential Symptoms

Environment

  • Venus 1500 (4)
  • Show Control Display Studio
  • SQL Server 2005 Only

Cause

  • When SQL Server Setup detects that a newer version of MSXML 6.0 is already installed on the computer, the validation process indicates that the current version of MSXML should not be replaced. This stops the installation of both MSXML 6.0 and SQL Server 2005. Without SQL Server 2005 installed, the control software installation cannot continue.
  • This install issue only occurs on Windows XP, and only if specific Windows updates were applied in a certain order. The error is more likely to occur on Daktronics computers rather than on customer computers since the Windows XP SP3 update (released April 2008) was applied after the MSXML update (released November 2008). If the updates are installed in the order they were released, the error does not occur.

Resolution

Step 1: Download and Run the MSXML6 Uninstall Utility.
  1. Go to https://dakfiles.daktronics.com/  and browse to the following directory.
    • Click Venus 1500 -> Utils -> MSXML 6 Uninstall
  2. Click the file name MSXML6Uninstall.zip. 
  3. Click Open, drag and drop the MSXML6Uninstall application to computer Desktop.
  4. Double-click MSXML6Uninstall application and select Run.
  5. Click Remove.
Step 2: Run the Software Installation again.
